Parkview School’s 45th Annual Americanism Parade

Parkview School’s 45th Annual Americanism Parade

Parkview Elementary School’s 45th Annual Americanism Parade was once again a great success with patriotic pride radiating brightly from Parkview’s students, staff and families. “Why We Love America” was the theme for this year’s parade which featured a line-up of enthusiastic students, marching bands and distinguished guests.

Proudly decked out in red, white and blue and waving American Flags and signs paying tribute to their great country, Parkview’s transitional kindergarten through 6th grade students marched by classroom down Elliott Street, singing patriotic songs and shouting cheers for the U.S.A.  The parade route was lined with hundreds of community members and students from Mountain View School District’s (MVSD) surrounding schools cheering them on as they celebrated all the reasons they love America.

The amazing marching bands and auxiliary units from Madrid Middle School and Kranz Intermediate School, as well as from the local high schools provided wonderful music and entertainment.

Joining in the patriotic celebration were several distinguished guests including El Monte Police Chief David Reynoso along with El Monte Police Department Officers, Lieutenants, School Resource Officers, and Mounted Patrol Volunteers on horseback, Los Angeles County Fire Department Station #168, Parkview Parent Volunteers, THINK Together After School staff members, Parkview retirees and MVSD maintenance worker, Juan Coronel, who drove one of the tractors used by the maintenance department.  Master of Ceremonies, George Schonborn, MVSD’s Director of Pupil Personnel Services provided an informational and humorous commentary, complete with several historical facts and tidbits.

Parkview’s Teacher of the Year, Silvia Chandler and Classified Employee of the Year, Edith Soto were escorted down the parade route atop a convertible Mustang.   Serving as Grand Marshals were retired MVSD administrator, Tony Lugo and retired Parkview Library Page, Kay Seegers.

“The Americanism Parade is something the entire community looks forward to each year,” said Lillian Maldonado French, MVSD Superintendent.  “It is wonderful to see our students so enthusiastically displaying their patriotism. Every year the Parkview team does an excellent job putting on this beloved parade.”

The Americanism Parade is the culminating activity to a month of patriotic research, writing, language and drama activities students participate in during February.

Donelle Soto, Parkview’s principal, appreciates the community support the parade receives year after year and is happy it has become such a beloved tradition for students and families.

“It’s wonderful to see the great community support we get and watching our students show their patriotism and have so much fun is incredible.  The students and all of us here at Parkview love this parade!  We are happy to host it year after year creating life-long memories for our students and families.”
