Parkview School celebrated America with a festive Drive-thru Americanism Parade, themed Parkview Gives Back. This year marked the school’s 47th parade, which is normally a large community event attracting hundreds of spectators lining Elliott Street to cheer the students, bands and groups marching down the parade route.

Remaining vigilant about health and safety during the pandemic, the school again this year, opted with a drive-thru version of the parade. Students and their families were encouraged to decorate their cars, bikes and scooters and drive-thru the school parking lot which was adorned with patriotic signs and decorations.  Decked out in red, white and blue, staff members were waving flags and cheering as participants drove, biked, scooted, roller skated and walked through the parking lot.  All students received goody bags, books and gifts.

Following the parade’s theme, Parkview Gives Back, the school’s Civic Leadership class kicked off a food drive at the parade and the generosity and kindness of the Parkview community resulted in a collection of over 1000 food items they plan donate to local food banks in the community.

“It was so great to see so many of our families participate in our drive-thru parade,” said Donelle Soto, Parkview principal.  “The kids were very excited and loved their books. In celebrating America we celebrated what we can do to support each other and our community by giving back with the food drive.  I’m very proud of our entire Parkview family and we are hopeful we can return to our in-person parade next year with spectators lining the streets and cheering on the students.”
