Schools Host Virtual Back to School Nights

Schools Host Virtual Back to School Nights

As the Mountain View School District continues this 2020-2021 school year, a year like we’ve never experienced before, the District and its 12 schools and preschool program are doing all they can to help students and families feel as comfortable as possible as everyone adjusts to the new remote learning/school environment.

MVSD’s recent Virtual Back to School Nights provided families the opportunity to hear from teachers and learn about class expectations, structure, scheduling, coursework, grading and more.  Held via Zoom, the Virtual Back to School Nights had great participation and provided helpful information for students, parents and families.

Mai Dang, a teacher at Miramonte Elementary School demonstrated to the parents of her 4th graders how her students complete a virtual math lesson using the instructional management system, Schoology.  Head Start Preschool teacher, Noemi Ochoa provided information on the daily schedule for preschoolers in her class at Cogswell Elementary School as well as required forms for the Head Start program.  Julie Pernudi, a second grade teacher at Twin Lakes Elementary highlighted the incentives and rewards she looks forward to giving students for attendance, effort and good behavior this year. Monte Vista School’s junior high teachers shared expectations, schedules and grading with 7th and 8th grade parents and thanked them for their support.

“During this new format of Distance Learning, parents you are teachers just like us and we appreciate your support and participation,” said Marcos Bowers, 7th/8th grade teacher.  “We are a community, the students, teachers, and parents and we can only get through this together,” he added.

MVSD’s Board of Education members and District Administrators virtually joined in some of the Back to School Nights and were impressed with the presentations, participation and meaningful connections with families.

“As I virtually visited classrooms during Back to School Night, I saw many happy faces and it was especially nice to see whole families in the Zoom screens attending together,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent.  “I was very proud of the effort that went into planning the events by our teachers, administrators and classified staff.”
