MLC Hosts Grinch Themed Lunch

The Magnolia Learning Center was transformed into “Magnoliaville” for a special Grinch themed holiday luncheon to celebrate the behavior achievements of students.  The Grinch, Max and Cindy Lou Who were there and performed a skit while students and guests enjoyed a Grinch inspired lunch.   Joining in the celebration were members of the 5 Points El Monte Rotary Club who brought gifts for each student including Van’s tennis shoes, a cuddly blanket and a stocking full of goodies.

Joining Richard Chavarria, Rotary President, were several Rotarians who displayed the true spirit of the season with their kindness and generosity.

“Our Rotary Club has a desire to serve and have an impact on young people in the community,” said Chavarria.  “We are very proud of those of you who have met your behavior contracts and are happy to reward you with some Van’s tennis shoes,” he said. “Keep up the great work and on behalf of the Rotary Club we wish you all a wonderful Christmas.”

The students were excited to receive their gifts and MLC’s staff members were so happy for the kids and enjoyed all the excitement as well.

“We are very thankful to the Rotary Club and its members for their continued support of our students and this outpouring of kindness for the holidays,” said Terri Thomas, MLC administrator.  “It’s wonderful for our students to see how much people love and care about them and it encourages them to work hard and accomplish great things.”

The gift of new Van’s tennis shoes was presented to the students who successfully completed their behavioral contract goals and a pair of new shoes awaits those students who are still working to complete their contract.

The students and staff also enjoyed a wonderful Christmas float brought by Valley Vista Services which was one of their huge trash trucks all decorated for the holidays.

Mountain View’s superintendent, Lillian Maldonado French and Board of Education member, Cindy Wu were also on hand to celebrate the students’ achievements and thank the MLC staff and Rotary Club for all they do for the students and families.

“We have an exceptional staff here at MLC and I appreciate all you do for the students and families,” said Maldonado French.  “To the students, we are all so proud of you and know you have made great strides with the support of your MLC family and organizations like Rotary.  Stay on course and you will continue to achieve your goals.”
