“I’m excited to learn more math!”  “I’m looking forward to doing division and multiplication.” “It’s so fun to be back with my friends.” “The playground is awesome! I can’t wait to play on it!” “School is the best, I’m glad to be back!”  These were some of the sentiments of students in the Mountain View School District as they gathered on school campuses for the first day of the 2023-24 school year on August 17.

“We had a great opening to the school year and our entire Mt. View Team is looking forward to an excellent year and continuing our focus on supporting our students academically and social/emotionally,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “Inspiring each student to succeed every day is our District mission and we look forward to providing the best experiences for our students.”

MVSD’s eight school campuses were adorned with welcome signs, balloons and celebratory posters, creating a wonderful and warm welcome for students and families as they eagerly greeted their teachers and staff members, and reunited with classmates and friends.

“At Baker School our staff put in a lot of effort to make sure our students had a friendly and welcoming start to the year,” said Leticia McCorkle, principal.   “We are very proud of the sense of belonging that was created on campus and we are very excited to motivate our students to achieve success.”

“It was a good first day at Payne School,” said Veronica Mondragon, parent.  “It was very organized and I’m looking forward to a great year for my kids and all of Payne’s students.”

New for the 2023-24 school year is MVSD’s participation in the Disney Imagination Campus.  Through this program, fifth and eighth graders will be discovering the science behind Disney theme park attractions at the greatest science laboratories in the world - the Disney Parks.  MVSD was one of four school districts in Los Angeles County selected to participate in the Disney Imagination Campus and is excited for the many opportunities it will bring students.

In addition to core academics and the new Disney program, MVSD continues to offer a variety of programs and enrichment for students including STEAM learning with robotics and coding, Project Lead the Way, AVID, Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL), extensive technology learning including in school 1:1 technology devices, Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program, Mandarin Enrichment Program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), comprehensive Visual and Performing Arts with resident artists, a strong college and career-bound culture, school counselors at every school, intervention programs, nationally recognized nutrition and health education, nationally recognized family engagement program and a Golden Bell award-winning Parent Leadership Academy.

“As I visited our campuses on the first day, it was great to see the students so excited to start school,” said Dr. Andry. “We are honored to serve our Mountain View community and empower our students to reach their full potential. It’s going to be a great school year!”
