Board Members Sworn-in for New Term

     Mountain View School District recently hosted a swearing-in reception and ceremony for re-elected Board of Education Members, Adam Carranza, Veronica Sifuentes, and Cindy Wu.

     Carranza was re-elected for a fourth term and was sworn in by his friend and fellow Board member, Jacqueline Saldaña.   Sifuentes is beginning her third term on the Board and was sworn in by her life-long friend and Parkview School teacher, Rocio Centeno.  California State Treasurer, Fiona Ma proudly administered the Oath of Office for Wu who is beginning her second term on the Board.

     These three superbly qualified people, Mr. Carranza, Ms. Sifuentes and Ms. Wu, will continue to play a major role in the evolution of policy and the carrying out of those policies in our school district during the next four years,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “As our Board of Education members, they will ensure we continue to bring to fruition our District vision of each member of MVSD holding themselves accountable for each student to become a life-long learner, a problem solver, critical thinker, effective communicator, and a positive contributor to their school community.  Together we will carry out our mission of inspiring each student to succeed every day.”

     Carranza is a proud product of the Mountain View School District and has a heart for the community. His roots in MVSD run deep as a former student, ASB president, former staff member, son of a classified employee and now veteran Board Member.

     “Adam is always willing to create opportunities for all generations,” said Saldaña.  “His compassion for our students, families and students is evident, and he is proud to give back to the city and school district that raised him.”

     Carranza thanked the voters for allowing him to serve for four more years and he is looking forward to continuing the work to ensure MVSD students have every opportunity to succeed.

     “I have so many memories of my time in Mountain View schools.  My education here provided a safe place and opportunities I treasure forever like performing arts, leadership, visiting Camp Mt. View and building relationships with fellow students and staff members,” said Carranza.  “I’m eager to continue our work on the Board and help make special moments for our students and create opportunities for them to grow and achieve their dreams.”

     Sifuentes is also a former MVSD student and attended Maxson and Kranz schools. 

“Veronica is home grown and truly understands our community and our students,” said Centeno.  She has been an incredible school board member and has built positive relationships with staff, parents and the community during her eight years on the Board.”

       “I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve another term on the Board and I appreciate the support of the community, my family and friends,” said Sifuentes.  “We will continue our collaborative work in the District to ensure we support our students and families and meet their needs.”

     Wu has lived in El Monte for 30 years and came to the United States in sixth grade as an English Learner.  She loves education and was named an LA County Woman of the Year for education. 

     “Cindy Wu is the first Asian Pacific Islander to be elected to Mountain View’s Board of Education and is a tremendous leader in the community,” said Ma.

     “It is truly an honor to be elected again and I’m proud to be a voice for the community,” said Wu.  “I appreciate the confidence placed in me by the community and I look forward to working with my fellow board members to continue to bring diversity, inclusion and equity to the District and make Mountain View the best school district in the San Gabriel Valley.”

  Proclamations and certificates were presented to the three re-elected board members by Florencio Briones on behalf of El Monte Union High School District, Ross Maza from the City of Alhambra, Aldo Macias from the Office of Assessor Jeff Prang, Crystal Lopez from the Office of Senator Susan Rubio, Assembly Member Mike Fong, Paul Chang the Mayor of Acadia, Yvonne Yiu, former Mayor of Monterey Park and Mike Gomez, LA County Commissioner – District I.     

      Completing MVSD’s five-member Board of Education are Christian Diaz and Jacqueline Saldaña, who along with Carranza, Sifuentes and Wu are all are proud to serve the community and look forward to working collaboratively as Team Mt. View, continuing to move MVSD forward and providing the best for students and families.
