Schools commemorated the 100th day of the 2021-2022 school year on February 4, celebrating the District’s incredible students, dedicated team of teachers, support staff and administrators, and the tremendous amount of learning that has taken place over the last 100 school days.

Campuses were filled with students and staff dressed as 100-year-olds in honor of the special day. Teachers incorporated fun activities that emphasized the number 100 including counting 100 pennies and fruit loops, designing and wearing 100-day hats and necklaces, writing about what they’ve learned in the 100 days, completing math problems and creating posters and artwork.

At Maxson School, fourth graders combined the Lunar New Year, which began on February 1, and the 100th day of school by creating 100 origami tigers to display in their classroom.  Students also drew some very impressive tigers and created beautiful Chinese lanterns.  The fourth graders eagerly shared a few of their favorite things they have done in class over the past 100 days including reading the book, One and Only Ivan, writing in their literary journals, studying California history and perfecting their multiplication skills.

La Primaria students donned their best “oldies” gear and completed activities focused on the number 100.   First grader, Samantha is excited about all she’s learned over the 100 days.

“We have been busy in class learning a lot this year,” she said.  “We read a lot, write, do math and we learned how to code too.”

Payne School celebrated its Panthers being 100 days smarter and several “golden oldies” could be found roaming the campus.

“It’s exciting to reach this milestone day in the school year,” said Ruby Huesca, Kindergarten teacher.  “A few of the fun things we’ll be doing today are counting 100 Fruit Loops to string on necklaces, coloring a 100 days of school hat, jumping 100 times and counting to 100,” she added.

The first 100 days of school have been fun for Miguel, a Payne School Kindergartner.

“I have learned new words, how to count from 1 to 100, how to write my name and other words.  I like doing work in our centers too.  I like it so much I want to stay in kindergarten,” he said.

Miguel’s classmate, Leilany shared that they’ve also learned letters, how to add and high frequency words over the past 100 days.  She was excited to share that her favorite thing about school is learning.

In addition to academics, throughout the 100 days of school, students have learned the importance of good citizenship by being kind, respectful and responsible.

The 100th day is a little more than half way through the school year and MVSD is proud of all that has been accomplished by students and staff.

“I am so proud of our students for their efforts and all they’ve achieved over the past 100 school days,” said Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “Our teachers, classified staff and administrators have made the first 100 days of school an incredible experience for our students and families during an exceptionally challenging year and their commitment to the Mountain View community is very much appreciated.”
