It's All About the STARS at Miramonte School
Miramonte Elementary School in the Mountain View School District kicked off its second year of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program with a special assembly highlighting the school’s STARS theme. STARS stands for Successful, Thoughtful, Accountable, Respectful and Safe which are the characteristics every Miramonte student and staff member strives to exhibit. The assembly featured student led skits showcasing both the wrong and right way to be successful, thoughtful, accountable, respectful and safe. Students were encouraged to treat each other with kindness and always right wrongs and apologize if they hurt someone’s feelings.
PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success and is used in all MVSD schools. The program’s emphasis is on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Miramonte received a Bronze Medal from the California PBIS Coalition for its successful first year implementing the PBIS program.
In line with the STARS theme, students who successfully display the STARS attributes receive STARS Bucks they can redeem for prizes.
“Our PBIS program is making a positive difference on our campus and I’m grateful to our PBIS Team for their dedication and hard work,” said Bruce Rhodes, principal. “Thank you students for doing such a great job with our PBIS standards. You put great effort into being successful, thoughtful, accountable, respectful and safe and it shows.”
