Mountain View School District was proud to honor and celebrate its 2023-24 District Teacher of the Year, Olga Gallegos at the 2023 Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year Banquet held at the Universal City Hilton.

Ms. Gallegos has been an integral member of the Mountain View School District for 24 years, providing exceptional teaching and inspiration for students at Cogswell, Kranz and Parkview Schools.  She is currently an 8th grade teacher at Parkview School where she teaches AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), Language Arts, History and Leadership.

“Olga has always been an advocate for the students she serves,” said Dr. Raymond Andry, Superintendent.  “She goes above and beyond to ensure that students have great academic programs and she is also passionate and committed to ensuring they have enrichment and leadership opportunities, as evidenced through her work with ASB and leadership,” added Andry.

In addition to the exceptional teaching she provides daily, throughout her years of service Gallegos has participated on a variety of school and district level committees and served as a leadership advisor, AVID Support Teacher, AVID Coordinator and spearheaded various school fund raisers.

According to Parkview School principal, Dr. Angelica De La Rosa, Gallegos has been instrumental in bringing the Parkview community together.

“Olga collaborates with her seventh and eighth grade level peers, as well as our Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade staff, which has allowed Parkview to continue to grow as a school community and in our Eagle Pride,” said De La Rosa.    “Her work as a school leader and classroom teacher is infectious and inspires others to work alongside her. Parkview is an exceptional school and Olga Gallegos is one of the many reasons why our students, parents and staff get to see us SOAR!!!” she added.

Gallegos values and respects all students and strives to provide an environment that enables each of them to excel.

“My teaching philosophy is to provide each student with a welcoming and safe environment where they can excel in critical thinking, problem-solving and social skills,” said Gallegos.  “Building relationships with my students is the key to their success.”

Gallegos inspires both her students and colleagues, and her passion for teaching and drive to provide the best for her students is admirable.

“We are fortunate to have Olga Gallegos as part of Team Mt. View,” said Dr. Andry.  “She is very deserving of the District Teacher of the Year award and is a wonderful representative of the excellent teachers we have throughout the District,” he added.

Proudly joining in the Teacher of the Year banquet to celebrate Ms. Gallegos were members of her family, as well as Dr. Andry, Dr. De La Rosa, Board of Education President, Veronica Sifuentes, Board Member, Cindy Wu, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Roberto Lopez-Mena and Mountain View Teachers Association President, Leticia Urias.
