MVSD Providing Virtual Summer Programs

MVSD Providing Virtual Summer Programs

As the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions continue to prevent school campuses from being open, the Mountain View School District is providing its students with virtual summer programs.  MVSD is well-known for its robust and engaging summer learning program and despite the physical school closures due to the pandemic, the District is continuing to offer summer learning on a smaller scale for students.

The virtual offerings include the seven-week Think Together Virtual Summer Program for kindergarten through 8th grade students encompassing academic support, virtual field trips, social emotional learning, STEM, art, physical education and healthy living.  The four-week Migrant Education “Let’s Go Camping” Virtual Summer Program is providing pre K to 8th grade students with an integrated curriculum utilizing a variety of learning strategies focusing on literature, math, science and art.  Fourth through 8th grade Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students are spending four weeks exploring science virtually with hands-on, project-based, online videos, science journals and Zoom tutorials with Dr. Richard Shope, president of the World Space Foundation’s EcoVoices program.  The District’s Special Education students are taking part in a four-week Extended School Year (ESY) Distance Learning Program with each week's lessons focusing on fun summer family activities such as trips the zoo, the beach, an amusement park and camping.

“While we wish our schools could be open and we were able provide our typical summer offerings for 3,000 plus students, we are excited to offer these virtual and distance learning opportunities and we remain committed to do all we can to provide meaningful learning while ensuring the health and safety of our students and staff,” said Lillian Maldonado French, superintendent.
