MVSD and City of Hope Support Staff with Vaccines
MVSD partnered with City of Hope, a world-renowned independent cancer and diabetes research and treatment center, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to provide District employees with access to COVID-19 vaccinations.

“We are very excited to help facilitate vaccines for our employees, and over the past two weeks, we have supported and offered vaccinations to 1217 staff members, including full and part-time classified staff, certificated staff, and administrators; hourly employees such as babysitters, bus monitors, and tutors; and classified and certificated substitutes,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent. “Members of our team have worked extremely hard to ensure that all of our staff members have access to the vaccines allotted to us by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.”

Recognizing that not all staff members have access to completing online appointments, the District created a concierge service, assisting staff with filling out the online applications for appointments. Additionally, MVSD has provided transportation to appointments for those needing it, and staff members have dedicated their time volunteering at the drive-through vaccine clinics administered by City of Hope and taking place at Duarte Performing Arts Center.

Since the onset of the pandemic last March, the safety of staff and students has been at the forefront for the District and the Mountain View Teachers Association (MVTA) and the Classified School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 430.

“MVTA really appreciates the great efforts the District has gone through to provide the opportunity for all of us to make appointments through City of Hope for the COVID vaccine,” said Laura Gaber, MVTA president.  “We know that all the surveys, phone calls and emails to help facilitate the safety and well-being of the MVSD staff were very time consuming. We are very grateful to everyone who did the work.”

According to Isaac Trujillo, CSEA president, CSEA extends its appreciation to City of Hope and MVSD for providing Covid-19 vaccines to classified employees and the community of El Monte.

“Our members appreciate this opportunity because they were able to be vaccinated faster through this opportunity, especially members who are on the frontline and working with the families,” said Trujillo.

“I’m so proud of our team for going above and beyond to ensure our staff members who wanted the vaccine were able to get it,” said French. “We are definitely stronger together and the support, care and compassion among our employees has been tremendous. We will continue to do whatever we can to support our employees and look forward to providing assistance for our families and community members when they are eligible for the vaccine.”
