New School Year Underway

New School Year Underway
Monday, August 22nd marked the start of the 2016-2017 school year for the Mountain View School District as the District’s 12 schools, Magnolia Learning Center and Children’s Center/Head Start State Preschool welcomed students back for a productive and successful school year.

“The start of a new school year brings a sense of hope and renewal and every member of our team is looking forward to a great year and providing all of our students with positive learning experiences,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Superintendent.

Students eagerly entered the gates of their schools to greet their teachers and reunite with friends.

“I love the first day of school, it’s always so much fun,” said a very happy 4th grader at Voorhis School.

“I love my school and know I’m going to learn a lot of new things this year.”

At La Primaria School students got the Hollywood treatment as they walked the red carpet to enter the campus as staff members cheered and welcomed them to the school year.

In addition to its strong academic and enrichment focus, MVSD will be emphasizing wellness this year and implementing its comprehensive wellness policy. To support this effort each school site has been assigned a full time counselor, and a nutrition specialist, as well as additional P.E. teachers have joined the MVSD team to support students and families.

Following the District’s mission of inspiring each student to succeed every day, the schools are strongly committed to student achievement and character development at all grade levels and continue to promote a college-bound culture through a variety of programs all focused on inspiring future collegiate scholars.

“We have high expectations for our students and know they will achieve great things this school year. Our students are important, loved, respected and the reason we are here, and we look forward to a wonderful school year,” said French.
